Being human is not an easy task. Suffering is part of the human condition. Death, grief, heartbreak, and loss are all things that are unavoidable. The skills to navigate suffering are not skills that are commonly taught in modern society. Extended periods of suffering can lead to a number of dysfunctions. Physical health, mental health, emotional health, and spiritual health can all be impacted by many of the life events we struggle with. Therapy can be a place where we learn the skills to navigate suffering and take back control of our lives.  Finding the right Therapist is like finding a guiding light in the darkness.

Julia is a Licensed Professional Counselor located in the state of Texas. Julia graduated with honors from West Texas A&M University, receiving her BS and MA in Psychology. As a college student, Julia was part of the McNair scholars program, where the Southwest Psychological Association published her research on Motivation for Change. 

 

Julia has called the Texas Panhandle home for the past 20 years.  Julia has 10 + years of experience working in the non-profit sector, providing mental health support to victims of domestic violence, as well as children and adolescents. Working in the Non-Profit sector has allowed Julia the unique experience of providing Mental Health services to rural communities. She is familiar with the challenges members of small-town, and rural communities face when it comes to health and wellness. 

 

In her spare time, Julia enjoys Yoga and Meditation practices. She obtained her Teaching Certificate in Kundalini Yoga from IKYTA in 2018 and teaches yoga and mindfulness classes in her local community. Julia also enjoys hiking, video games, anime, horror movies,  and spending time with her cats.

Individual Counseling services are tailored to meet the needs of the individual seeking Therapy. You will work with your therapist to identify your personal goals, identify what is preventing you from meeting those goals, and identify skills to navigate these barriers. Adolescent and Teen Therapy

The environmental stressors our children are struggling with look completely different than they did 20 years ago. Our teens are navigating how to live in a technologically advanced, post-pandemic society. The skill sets needed to manage these stressors have also evolved. Taking a Holistic Trauma-Informed look at adolescent and teen Mental Health means taking a look at the family system as a whole. A holistic approach looks like identifying generational patterns, or behaviors passed down from parents and grandparents, identifying dysfunctions in these patterns, and providing skills to the family as a whole to navigate these patterns. By taking a holistic approach to adolescent and teen therapy, we are moving the focus of putting the responsibility for healing solely on the child, while supporting the family as a whole in creating a healthy, and healing environment.

HOLISTIC TRAUMA-INFORMED CARE

 

Therapists who practice Trauma Informed Care are trained to see past symptoms and to look into what may be causing these symptoms. Recent studies in trauma are bringing to light the fact that trauma is more than surviving major events like war, and violence. Trauma is any event that has activated our flight or fight response. Unprocessed trauma can often be the core cause of symptoms of Mental Illness.

Holistic-Trauma informed care means looking at the whole person, and the whole of their experiences. Treatment can look like identifying core wounds, and finding how these wounds are impacting mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual health. By taking a holistic, trauma-informed care model of treatment, genuine and authentic healing is possible!

EVIDANCE-BASED TREATMENT 

Therapy is not a “one size fits all” type of treatment. We are all unique and individual, with unique life experiences, traumas, and belief systems. Not all therapy styles are going to be right for everyone.  In your first session, your therapist will ask you questions to get a better picture of what you may be struggling with, as well as identify goals for treatment. Using these questions and goals as a framework, your therapist will customize a treatment style, using evidence-based practices, tailored to help you achieve your goals as quickly as therapeutically possible. Evidence-based practices are therapy techniques that have been researched, and tested in repeated, rigorous scientific studies. Using evidence-based practices means these techniques have been shown time and time again to be successful at providing relief for Mental Health struggles. Julia provides a Trauma-Focused approach, meaning all therapeutic techniques are designed to be supportive of some of the more complex symptoms of trauma. Underlying trauma in therapy can hinder therapy if not supported healthily.

 

Some of the evidence-based Practices that will be used:

 

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy - CBT places a focus on learning how our thoughts control our behavior. CBT teaches skills to manage thoughts, while also learning to control behavior.

 

Dialectic Behavioral Therapy - DBT is a skills-based model. DBT is similar to CBT in that the focus is learning how thoughts control behavior. DBT provides skills to learn to manage big emotional responses. 

 

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy - ACT is a mindfulness-based practice that focuses on skills designed to learn to accept and be present with our current thoughts, feelings, and emotions. 

 

Narrative Therapy:  A focus on skills to identify inner narrative or repetitive thought patterns, and learning to identify the belief this narrative is tied to.

Mindfulness:  Learning to regulate Nervous System Responses through meditation, breathwork, and mindfulness. Julia is a registered Yoga Instructor through the Kundalini Yoga Research Institute, and fuses together these ancient techniques with modern, empirically validated treatment methods
